2007 Neuse River Spring Clean-up
 Nets 22,490 Pounds of Trash!

241 Volunteers collected 401 bags of trash, 57 tires and a variety of large items such:  washer and dryer, 2 grocery carts, a picnic table, car windshield, high chair, boat trailer, 2 water heaters, 2 toilets and a propane tank!  The weirdest item was the "head of a alligator found floating next to the "head" of a Ken Doll.

The Clean-up is a great family project
Workers from Raleigh Solid Waste Division load trash at Poole Rd
The clean-up covers 50 miles of river between Falls Dam in North Raleigh and Smithfield Town Commons in Johnston County.  In addition we covered 12 miles in downtown Kinston and a one-mile section on Contentnea Creek in Snow Hill.  The event gets bigger every year!

This is a real community effort involving youth groups, church groups, civic organizations, paddle clubs, businesses and river enthusiasts.  Wake County and Johnston County are waiving the landfill fees and the cities of Raleigh, Smithfield, Kinston and Snow Hill are providing garbage trucks and staff to remove trash.

Please don't forget to support our sponsors: REI, Timberland, Raleigh Kiwanis, LOWE'S, Restoration Systems, Wholefoods, Weaver Street Market, BJ's Wholesale, Paddle Creek and Frog Hollow.
