2007 Neuse River Backwater Open
September 30th

September 30th marks the Fourth Annual NRBWO fishing tournament held each fall on the Neuse River. Participants will launch at safe light from the public ramp located in Lawson’s Creek Park in New Bern.

Unique as the only ALL artificial tournament here in Eastern NC, the NRBWO showcases the three most sought after species here in the river. Targeted are Speckled Trout (Spotted Seatrout), Puppie Drum (Red Drum), Flounder and Stripers (know locally as Rock fish.)

Anglers competing in this one day event can stay close to New Bern or venture as far down the Neuse River as Turnigan Bay and Lower Broad Creek and up most all the smaller creeks off the Neuse. The two-man team with the heaviest creel will win.

The maximum creel to be weighed in will consist of 5 trout, 2 stripers, 2 flounder and 2 redfish. The creel can be dead or alive at the time of weigh in. If later release of the fish is wanted, tournament staff will help get the fish weighed and released.

This event is organized and sponsored by the Neuse River Backwater Open as a benefit for the Neuse River Foundation sponsor of the Riverkeeper Program.
