Annual Neuse River Spring Clean-up The Neuse River Spring Clean-up occurs on the first Saturday in April. This is a one-day event from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. where volunteers help remove trash and debris form the Neuse and some of it's tributaries. Muddy Water Watch (MWW) The Muddy Water Watch project is a community-based, citizen training project designed to reduce sediment pollution--the number one pollutant in NC streams and rivers. The project was created in direct response to citizen complaints about sediment related impacts they could see in their own neighborhoods. The program provides education, training workshops and support that will give citizens the necessary tools to actively engage with local governing bodies, policymakers and developers on issues concerning clean water in their communitites.
RiverWatch RiverWatch is a "neighborhood watch" program for the Lower Neuse River Basin. After a training session to learn about the river, pollution threats, and how to recognize them, volunteers will spend 8 hours per month on their assigned river or creek looking for potential pollution problems. Neuse River Day Neuse River Day is an annual community festival at Union Point Park in New Bern, NC. The festival includes environmental exhibitors, live music, entertainers, arts and crafts vendors and lots of good food; but the main entertainment is on the water. Paddling enthusiasts, participate in canoe and raft races, some are serious and some are just for fun. There are a variety of volunteer positions from the planning committee to selling tickets.
