The Neuse River Foundation recently celebrated 28 years of river research and protection.For fifteen years, it has supported the Neuse RIVERKEEPERS® who provide constant vigilance and a strong voice for the protection of all 250 miles of the Neuse River under the certification of WATERKEEPER® Alliance.The Upper and Lower Neuse RIVERKEEPERS® work to advocate for and improve the water conditions for the citizens of North Carolina through investigation, education and public involvement.The Neuse River runs through eleven counties in North Carolina, encompassing over 6,000 square miles of watershed.The Neuse River Foundation maintains two offices, one at each end of the Neuse River: the Lower Neuse office is located in New Bern, NC and the Upper Neuse office is located in Raleigh, NC.
In 2007, the Neuse River Foundation received recognition in the form of two prestigious awards: (1) the North Carolina Wildlife Federation Governor’s Achievement Award for the 2006 Conservation Organization of the Year, and (2) the Dan Wilkinson Conservation Communication Award sponsored by Wake County and WRAL-TV which recognized the organization’s leadership in excellence for communicating the message of natural resource stewardship to the Triangle community.
